Tonight we celebrated Children's Dedications at RWC! We believe in the power of declaring that our children are a gift from God and as so we must dedicate our lives to ensuring that they follow a Godly path. "We cannot forget our traumatic experiences, but we can use it to grow..." TUNE IN today at 5pm here on the Restoration Worship Center Facebook Live for a candid conversation about mental health with Dr. Noel Casiano and Pastor Eli Serrano.
RECAP: From today's conversation with Dr. Noel Caciano as we close out our "Dear Mind Series." Question #1: How does trauma have an effect on us? Trauma has the ability to remember certain experiences; good and bad. Our brains develop from the bottom up: • The brainstem controls our sleep, heart rate, etc. • The diencephalon is where we build relationships. • The limbic plays a role in how we are with family and loved ones. • The neocortex is in an atmosphere of learning and challenges. Symptoms of trauma are shown in our brainstem (inability to eat, sleep, etc.) In our sleep we reprocess bad experiences with positive experiences; we cannot do it in isolation. Artificial intelligent is overpowering the greatest computer made by God: our brain. Question #2: If someone struggles with anxiety, how should we deal with it? 1 - Relationships 2 - Environment “If you don’t work it, it doesn’t work.” 3 - Prayer Life / Meditation / Worship The amygdala is our emotional control center. Research shows how worship music allows the amygdala to reduce in size; Worship is our healing place. Replace mindfulness with meditation. “Meditation is God-given so that we can be able to calm our emotional dysregulation.” ANTs ~ Automatic Negative Thoughts Question #3: What are the signs to avoid falling into depression (again)? 1 - Look at your spiritual walk. When we stop praying and worshiping, we’re more likely to fall back into depression. 2 - Generation Influence. Epigenetic's (Generational Curses) cause us to struggle with what our past generations struggled with. We also must avoid what we know we may be prone to struggle with. 2 - Be open about it. Mental Health is hidden; we must give the same sympathy to someone with a cast than to one with mental health. 3 - Prayer. Closeness with God allows us to adopt his identity and not what the doctor has diagnosed us with. Question #4: How do we know that what we’re feeling requires clinical support? When your behaviors are starting to affect the people that love you the most, then we need to seek help. Question #5: Is it possible to truly overcome trauma? Yes and No; It’s like crumpling up a piece of paper and then flattening it out. The crumples led are or bad experiences, but when we give our life over to Christ, the Holy Spirit heals us and flattens it out.
